Taq Bustan

The historical region of Taq Bustan, at the foot of a mount with the same name, is in the northeast of Kermanshah. In the yard and on the walls of its two niches and around them

there are some stone reliefs about Ardeshir II coronation by Ahora Mazda, the game preserve, Shapur II, Shapur III, Khusro and Shabdiz, and also some figures of Mohammad Ali Mirza Dowlatshah (the son of Fath Ali Shah Qajar) and a devotion inscription in Nasta’ligh calligraphy.

Somewhere alongside the silk road or main road of Khorasan in Bistun-25 kilometers east of Kermanshah-and beside Darius inscriptions, there is a statue which is known as Hercules statue. The figure is recumbent and is connected to the mount on the back. This statue is Hercules-Verethranga-which was an important god of Pars.

There are figures and a stone inscription in old Greek behind the statue of Hercules. The figures consist of an olive tree from which a quiver and bow are hung. There is a club beside this tree. The stone inscription have seven lines on a 33 by 34 centimeters slate. It resembles the ancient Greece temples. It had been hewn in 153 B.C.

The modern town of Kangavar, the site of Anahita Temple, is situated midway between Hamedan and Kermanshah on the main historical Hegmataneh  Ctesphon highway. Anahita or Nahid was a major deity in the pre-islamic Iran.She was the protector of water and the goddess of beauty, fertility and fecundity. The archaeological investigations indicated that the site is about 220m long and 210m wide. The site’s highest point on the southern corner is32m high and the western, eastern, and southern part of the temple, there had been a series of pillars on the exterior part of the building which originally were 3.54m * 3m high and consisted of parts: shaft, plinth and capital.
